Highway 97 Safety Improvements
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has resumed the final year of a two-year project to improve traffic flow and safety along Highway 97. The project includes reconstructing the highway, adding turn lanes, building a single-lane roundabout, constructing a multi-use trail, and installing raised medians. A section of Highway 97 between Everton Avenue and Highway 61 is closed through fall 2026, with detours in place. Local access within the closure zone is maintained during construction.
Let’s Go Fishing Program Launch
The nonprofit organization Let’s Go Fishing is launching a new chapter in Forest Lake, expected to begin services in June 2026. The program offers free fishing and boating outings for seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities, and youth. The Forest Lake chapter has been fundraising to support its operational needs and plans to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Forest Lake Chamber of Commerce in early October.
Tim’s Marina Expansion Proposal
Tim’s Marina proposed adding two seasonal floating docks with 72 slips and requested a variance to reduce required parking spaces. The Forest Lake City Council conducted an environmental assessment and concluded that a full environmental impact statement was not necessary. However, the Planning Commission later denied the expansion request, citing concerns about parking shortfalls, lake congestion, and water quality.
Community Engagement Opportunities
Residents are encouraged to participate in upcoming city meetings and events. The City Council meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month, with workshops on the third Monday. Additionally, the Planning Commission and Parks, Trails, and Lakes Commission hold regular meetings. Engaging in these sessions allows community members to stay informed and contribute to local decision-making processes.
